Palace’s second string played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Whyteleafe on Tuesday night, with several new faces getting a run-out.
French keeper Anthony Basso played the full 90 minutes, giving Iain Dowie the chance to assess a keeper who could soon be signed up as Speroni’s understudy.
Also on show was Argentinian midfielder Alejandro Alonso. The 22-year-old is available for transfer from Argentine club Huracan. Other triallists playing on the night included a couple of strikers – Frenchman Pascal Nouma and Reading’s Mario Noto – as well as Tooting and Mitcham midfielder Elliot Onouchie and Whyteleafe player Bradley Pritchard.
Palace took the lead after just eight minutes through Onouchie, but Whyteleafe were back on level terms almost immediately after some dodgy Palace defending.
It took until the 76th minute for Palace to regain the lead – but again Whyteleafe were quick to respond and the game finished all sqaure.
