"We were excellent in the first half and thoroughly deserved the lead," said Laws "We were unfortunate not to get a second one, in the second half pinned us in.
"They got the equaliser through a little bit of naivety by our centre-half to give the penalty."
Laws also claimed the Coca-Cola Championship schedule had been too congested in recent weeks.
He said: "We are delighted to stop the rot it gives us good heart. We have had a mad month of games and five games in two weeks is ridiculous situation.
"Every club has suffered from injuries because of it. Thank God its out the way and we can get some normality back".
Neil Warnock had to tell his players to clam down at half time. He saw them improve second half and he felt they could have won the game.
"At half-time I told them to relax and enjoy themselves," Said Warnock. "They were playing with fear for the first half hour and made Wednesday look like Real Madrid.
"We dominated the second half, but overall we have to be disappointed not to win with the clear-cut chances we had.
"Ben Watson had a great first touch into the box and then had a touch like an elephant.
"Kuqi missed a good chance, it went to his head. He could have just controlled it but that's Kuqi for you."
