The Eagles, who had won their last three home games to boost their hopes of beating the drop, were by far the more adventurous side.
But they fluffed their lines in front of goal with James Vaughan and Pablo Counago squandering chances to put them ahead.
Vaughan should have broken the deadlock just before the interval when he scuffed his shot wide, while Counago and Neil Danns were both denied by some last-ditch defending.
Hull offered little in response, although they will be satisfied at stretching their unbeaten run on the road to six games.
Their cause was not helped by injuries to Richard Garcia and Anthony Gerrard, who both had to be replaced during the first half.
