Peter Taylor has failed in an attempt to bolster his creaky defence with the loan signing of Portsmouth's Andy O'Brien.
Taylor had hoped to lure O'Brien to Selhurst Park until January as the centre-back is currently out of favour at Fratton Park.
The former Newcastle defender would have provided a useful extra option at the back – with only three recognised centre-backs at the club currently.
However, director of football Bob Dowie has confirmed that the bid failed.
Dowie told the Kingston Borough Guardian: "We spoke to Harry Redknapp about Andy O'Brien but he indicated he was still part of his plans. There's really nothing to be done there.
"We are still looking at the moment for possible loan deals."
