Dowie unfazed despite sleepy start

Palace boss Iain Dowie was full of praise for his side after last night’s match, despite presiding over a second consecutive defeat of the new season.

The Eagles were shot down by a late Carl Cort strike as Wolves ran out 2-1 winners at Molineux. But Dowie saw far more positives in Palace’s play last night than in the lacklustre opening day performance at home to Luton.

"It was a very good display," Dowie said. "We were positive and more than matched them in football terms.

"It was much improved from Saturday and had to be. The players deserved more than that because it was a performance full of desire and good football.

"We have to maintain that standard. If teams are raising their game against us, we have to deal with that."
