Crystal Palace manager George Burley is hoping the club can start afresh this season having fought off relegation and administration. Palace retained their Championship status following a final-day draw at Sheffield Wednesday last term and then avoided going bust during a turbulent summer which also saw the arrival of Burley. The former Scotland coach has seen a host of players leave Selhurst Park but he is still looking to add to his five new signings before the end of this month's transfer window. Speaking to the South London Press, he said: "Ideally we could've done with the season starting in about two weeks time. "There are still a lot of balls up in the air. It is going to be a tough start - the first month will be a big test because we don't have a full squad together yet. "But there is an optimism around the club."
